KCRE Excellent Student Thesis Grant Distribution

Tribhuvan University, Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, with the financial support of Kathmandu Center for Research and Education (KCRE, CAS-TU), organized the KCRE Excellent Student Thesis Grant Distribution Ceremony. The event awarded 13 outstanding students from various Central Departments under the Institute of Science and Technology (IoST). This initiative, which began in 2014, continues to promote high-quality research and scientific excellence among TU students.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences has been consistently supporting Nepali students through the KCRE Excellent Student Thesis Grant since 2014. Each selected student receives a total of Rs. 1 Lakh (Rs. 100,000), provided on an installment basis. This was the first major program launched immediately after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tribhuvan University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, marking a significant milestone in academic cooperation between the two institutions.

Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, Prof. Dr. Deepak Aryal, along with Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology (IoST), Prof. Dr. Shankar Prasad Khanal, honored the awardees during the ceremony. Prof. Dr. Aryal advised the students to strictly follow the rules and regulations of the KCRE Grant, emphasizing the importance of focusing on quality research and timely publication. He expressed gratitude to the Chinese Academy of Sciences for its generous support in inspiring science students at Tribhuvan University.
Dean Prof. Dr. Shankar Prasad Khanal highlighted that for the past 11 years, the Chinese Academy of Sciences has been providing the KCRE Excellent Student Thesis Grants, supporting students and encouraging them toward research and publication. He requested CAS to extend similar support to other central departments, including the School of Mathematical Sciences and Mountaineering Studies. Prof. Khanal also expressed TU’s keen interest in strengthening future collaboration with CAS.
The ceremony was chaired by Prof. Dr. Tek Bahadur Chettri, Head of the Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. Dr. Binod Dawadi, Deputy Director of KCRE, provided a brief historical overview of the grant and encouraged awardees to utilize the funds effectively for research and publication. He reminded students to complete their theses within nine months to receive the remaining installments, including 20% linked to an international publication. Whereas Dr. Achyut Adhikari, Supervisor of the awarded Excellent Student of Chemistry, Prof.Dr. Kumar Sapkota, Head Central Department of Zoology, and Aenisha Basnet, an award-winning student from the Central Department of Environment Science, Praised Chines Academy of Science for its continuous support. Assistant Dean of IoST, Dr. Komal Prasad Rijal, delivered a vote of thanks to all participants, university authorities, and department heads.

Students received the KCRE Excellent Student Thesis Grant 2025 are Kripa Timilsina (Central Department of Chemistry), Diwas Sapkota (Central Department of Computer Science & Information Technology), Aenisha Basnet (Central Department of Environmental Science), Vatsala Rai (Central Department of Food Technology), Suman Khadka (Central Department of Geology), Susa Manandhar (Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology), Bhuvan Devkota (Central Department of Mathematics), Sneha Kapad (Central Department of Microbiology), Anil Rai (Central Department of Physics), Sumitra Nepal (Central Department of Statistics), and Moni Kumari Chaudhary (Central Department of Zoology).
